What’s this about dragons?

You might have noticed „something something Drachentöten“ on Steam or this blog …

🇬🇧 English | 🇩🇪 Scrollen für Deutsch!

Vom Drachentöten („On Slaying Dragons“) is my first game! But it’s available in German only, for now. Sorry! I DO plan to release it in English at some point, but that’s not exactly a chill afternoon.

First: a rough translation of the Steam description

“Hail, stranger!”
“Thou art welcome in our humble oasis.”

What this is about

In the oppressive desert heat of the Protectorate, three set out to slay a dragon:
Nare Nivadh. Illum. Lambda of the Morning Red. Each carries their own motivation, experiences, and inner conflict. Even the land itself stirs under the tyranny of the worm … Knowledge, weapons, skills: it’s time to find the power before which even a dragon yields!

How it plays

A text-heavy JRPG, reduced to its essence.

  • A cohesive story. About 4 hours, completely free of fetch quests or grinding.
  • Exploration with character. A lively oasis full of stories. A ruined land of ancient secrets waiting to be uncovered.
  • Challenging battles. Every character has their role. Every action and experience point can make a difference.
  • Strategy with impact. A manageable selection of skills and items to master.
  • Consequences. Every risk holds both opportunity … and danger!
How it came to be

This debut work is also an experiment: can a stylish, immersive role-playing game be created using only the resources of RPG Maker MZ? To achieve this goal, the game experiments with an unusual language, inspired by the plays of the Weimar Classicism.

Now what’s the problem?

Yeah, it’s the language. Vom Drachentöten is very wordy, but more than that, this language is also very German. Now, Shakespearean English is a SOMEwhat appropriate equivalent (Weimar classicists would agree, as some even tried to claim the Bard as „one of their own“!), and I do have a connection to all that … But still, it is quite intimidating, especially since the game’s appeal relies HEAVILY on this language. Economically, an English release of a 2$ rpg maker debut isn’t very likely to make a huge dent either, so I’ll be doing this almost exclusively for the love of the game – meaning the love of this game as well as the „weird ol‘ language“ game.

Doesn’t sound too bad after all! 😀

Oh, ihr sprecht Deutsch? Dann gibt es keinen Grund, hier groß zu sabbeln …

Das Spiel steht auf Steam! 😀
